I went to Taunton Art College, where I got a degree in Textile Design, after which I moved to London and started designing greetings cards and wrapping paper, for a variety of publishing houses. I moved back down to the West Country in the 1980’s and began working for an animation company, which I did for many years until the introduction of computers! The time was right to start my own business and I found a gallery in Sidmouth, a beautiful coastal town in East Devon, where I painted and exhibited. I really enjoy working in the same place as exhibiting; you get such strong feedback from the public on your work, and its great to chat to potential buyers who genuinely enjoy meeting the artist, and watching work in progress. In 2007 I relocated to Arundel in West Sussex, a truly lovely part of the world, where I had a studio/gallery. I am now, as from 2010, back in the West Country, I am lucky enough to have a studio in my home, but I am on the lookout for new premises.
My paintings speak for themselves really, but I enjoy the surreal edge of life, of finding something where its least expected. Colour and pattern are a major factor in my work, that comes from my textile background.
Water, the sea, and the fish are subjects I have painted a lot of. Fish are so comical, and so pretty, and when you have hundreds of them together, they are magical. Clouds, and sky, things you see every day, landscape are the things that inspire me. Nature, ..it's beautiful and strange all at the same time.
My latest project has been experimenting with gold leaf, trying to find a new way of using it. I have spent many hours fiddling and messing with it in an effort to find something that works, and I think I have managed this in my new series of paintings the Gold Birds.
I have exhibited in London, Spain, Sussex and the West Country.
I paint to commission, particular sizes etc.
